Are you playing «The Great Online Game»?
To this day I remember «Super Mario World» on the Gameboy. It was the first game I played and played and played again.
There is another game I‘m currently playing non stop, that I wasn‘t even aware of I take part in. Until I read these two articles last week:
The Great Online Game is played concurrently by billions of people, online... with real-world consequences. Your financial and psychological well-being is at stake, but the downside is limited. The upside, on the other hand, is infinite.
But focusing on the risks within the game obscures a much bigger problem: The game is no longer optional. Everyone must play. We have little to lose because we already lost everything: Stable jobs, affordable homes, education that lasts a lifetime, and worry-free retirement are no longer an option.
Publishing online never felt game-like to me. But now I try to reframe what I‘m
doing with Ship30for30.
Every Atomic Essay I write and share is me hitting a box with a question mark. Currently it feels like hitting the brick ones with nothing inside. But sometimes a coin appears and then another one. It‘s not about finishing but just hitting one after the other.
